Cheery Lynn Merry Christmas!

Hi friends!  I have a Christmas card to share today.  I was inspired by this beautiful Merry Christmas die.  It's large and needed a large card to show it off well.  I used a classic red and green color scheme and cut the Poinsettias out of a patterned paper from an old Christmas stack.  

I began by layering another patterned paper on top of a 5.5" white card base.  Then I added a white mat before gluing the Merry Christmas, Holly Lace Flourish  dies and Poinsettias.  I cut the poinsettia strip die twice to get enough for the arrangement I wanted.  The Holly die was also cut twice out of a dark green textured card stock.  

Last I added pearl centers to the flowers and a glitter paste.  I also sprinkled dry glitter over the paste while it was still wet because it's a new supply for me and I wasn't sure it would be sparkly or white enough.  As one of my DT sisters recently said it's the season of glitter and I don't think you can go overboard during the holidays.  I sprinkled some white Frantage embossing powder in the corners for a little extra interest.

Cheery Lynn August Blog Hop - Flower Power!

Flowers are so fun to play with!  This summer I challenged myself to use all the Cheery Lynn flower dies to create different bloom effects by folding and scrunching petals various ways.  For instance I found that the Daisy Strip (which has become one of my favs) can look like three completely different flowers by folding petals up, down or leaving them to lie flat.  I used some of the flowers to create this name frame for my new niece.  All the flowers were cut with white paper and colored with distress ink.  Using inks gives the flowers a realistic look.  It's also easy to layer, blend or add color until you achieve your desired effect.  For shimmer, glimmer mist was sprayed on some flowers and glitter glue was added to a few leaves.  

I used dotted paper for the background cut to the size of the frame.  Then I cut  Fanciful Flourishes and glued them around letters from my stash.  I played with flower placement until there was enough visual balance between style and color.  For the leaves I used three different dies:  Flourish Leaf Strip, Fanciful Flourish, and Flourish #13.  The peach flower is the Gardenia Strip die, the dark pink is the Tea Rose Medium, the white flowers are the Chrysanthemum Strip, the yellow are the Shasta Daisy Strip and the 3D Daisy and the largest pink flower is the Stacker Flower #5.  The center of the Stacker Flower was made using the Embellishments #3 set.

Cheery Lynn March Blog Hop Featuring IOE Embossing plates!

I am always so inspired by Cheery Lynn's flower dies, and I decided to use colors from a cosmetic bag I have.  This card uses the new IOE plates.  I just embossed the edges of the IOE plates to get the beautiful scroll corners that I then colored with a little metallic rub on paint.  I really like how this embossing folder adds such an elegant texture and dimension.

If you haven't seen the IOE plates in action yet, check out the Cheery Lynn Designs video HERE and learn more at Tea Paper Crafts.  There are so many combinations that can be made with just the Frame It Embossing Folder and IOE Plates.  The IOE plates can be used with your existing embossing folders - and if you are like me, you have a ton of them.  The possibilities really are endless.

 I cut the Mirror Mirror Doily Frame once out of white card stock and colored the edges with distress ink.  The center of the doily was cut with the coordinating oval so I could used the center as a frame.  The Tea Rose Medium was cut with a peach patterned paper.  The Miniature Roses were colored with glittery blue and bronze spray mists.  The Dandelions were lightly colored with distress ink and tucked behind the roses.  I added black Tiny Fanciful Flourishes which tied in well with the black and white photograph of my grandmother.  I used Frantage Embossing powder on the key and metallic rub on paint on the lock.

Cheery Lynn Mixed Media Frame Tutorial

Hello!  Since the current challenge theme at Cheery Lynn Designs is Anything Goes I thought I'd make something different than a card.  This is a picture frame made out of chipboard.  I've never created anything like this before so I took lots of photos along the way.

First I cut three pieces of thin chipboard to 5.5" square.  I cut the middle out of two of the three pieces using two different sizes of the Scalloped Square Stackers.  The two pieces with square windows will be used to double mat the central image and the whole square is for the back of the frame.  

I painted the frame with the larger square opening with a clear matte gesso.  When the gesso was dry I glued elements from the new Quadrafoil Accents die set (also cut out of chipboard) on top and then painted the entire frame with a metallic distress paint.  I wasn't worried about the paint being even because I planned to cover it.

I sponged black distress ink on top because I wanted contrast and an antique feel.  The crackle paste I used suggested a black color base.  There was still a metallic sheen to the frame.

I covered the frame with white Crackle paste, leaving less on the raised Quadrafoil Accents so they'd show up more.  I didn't worry about neatness.  Variations makes the crackle interesting when dry.

My heat tool unfortunately went on strike so while I was waiting I added clear crackle glaze to the edges of the flowers.  The large flower was created using the Stacker Flower 5 die.  The smaller roses are from the Tea Rose Medium die.  They were colored with distress ink and sprayed with shimmery mists.

 Once the crackle glaze was dry and I moved around the flowers a bit to determine placement.

The sentiment paired well with the vibrant flowers but everything felt too bright so I added brown distress ink to the frame and flowers.

The second piece of chipboard with the smaller window was colored with bronze metallic paint.  I sandwiched a piece of clear acetate from toy packaging between the two chipboard mats before gluing the chipboard together.  

I added a stand to the third piece of chipboard so the frame can stand independently.  The chipboard was thin so I cut and glued two pieces together to create the stand and scored and folded the top.

 Brads connect the stand to the frame.  I punched two small holes through the top part of the stand as well as through the back of the frame and then threaded two brads through the holes.

Last in the assembly, I glued the front of the frame to the back.  If you want to be able to use the frame with different images, make sure to only glue around the bottom and sides, leaving the top unglued.  Heavy books held the chipboard together while it dried. 

The Fern Leaves were coated with a sepia gloss and I adhered the flowers and leaves to the frame with the same glaze.

Hello crafty friends, I'm back today with a Thank You card.  I love layering Cheery Lynn doilies to make cards.  You can achieve so many wonderful and varied looks by combining different doilies and stackers.  For this card I cut the Royal Scandinavian Boutique Stacker  out of a patterned paper and backed it with a gray A2 size card.  I layered the Alpine Flourish Doily on top cut with a pale gray paper.  A light blue Royal Scandinavian Tag is the backing for the Thank You phrase.  Thank You was cut twice and slightly offset for a shadow effect.

Last I added the floral arrangement for some added interest.  If I needed a really quick last minute card, it would have worked without the flowers but I love seeing how paper flowers transform when molded with a stylus tool so I added them.  I used the smaller of the two dies in the Judy's Blooms set and cut four flowers to make the two blooms.  The leaves were cut using Flourish #14 and I added some Tiny Fanciful Flourishs for interest.

Hello! I'm sharing a card that's also featured on the Cheery Lynn Blog today. I've been making so many holiday cards and wanted to make something different.  I pulled out my floral dies and pastel colors and ended up with a spring card.  

First I cut the Canadian Kaleidoscope Doily die out of kraft paper and then found a patterned paper that coordinated for underneath.  I love using these Cheery Lynn Doily dies.  They are so detailed and lovely it's so easy to create a stunning card with just a few dies.  I glued both to a pink A2 sized card.  The arrangement was made by first making a flower with the Build a Flower #2 die.  I scrunched the petals and sprayed them with distress ink spray and glimmer mist so they sparkle. 

 The Flourish #3, white Wreath Strip leaves and yellow leaves from the Ivy Strip were all tucked into the arrangement.  The little bird is from the Feathered Friends set and he was colored with distress ink.  The Celebrate word is the larger of the two dies from the set and was also colored with distress ink to match the flower.

Cheery Lynn Roses

Hello friends, I'm sharing a card today inspired by Cheery Lynn's Roses challenge.  I cut and and assembled the Medium Tea roses and then created everything else after.  I love the ombre elements I've seen on cards and decided to incorporate one into my card using the border die and stacking each different yellow layer lightest to darkest.

I cut the blue background layer once with the Curved Border die and then cut the patterned paper three times to get the fancy edge and the dot pattern.  The stack of Ankara Lace border's was glued to the card and then I cut the edge off the Ankara doily and tucked it under the edge of the stacked borders.  The sentiment layer was cut using the new Pierced Stacker #4 and adhered with foam tape.

I colored the the roses to match the other colors in the card using distress ink and a foam dauber.  I added some white Olive Branches and blue Add a Flourish flourishes to the floral spray and finished by adding the two butterflies from the Small Exotic Butterflies die.

Classy Cards Best Friends

Hi, I'm sharing a new card today I created for the Classy Cards 'n Such Blog.  If you use my coupon code JENNY-10 you can save 10% on an entire order at the Classy Cards Store.

I only used a few dies on this card because the Cheery Lynn Lattice 2 die is so prominent and it didn't need much else.  I cut the lattice out of pink card stock and glued it to the cream A2 card.  Then I created my flowers using Heartfelt Creations Arianna Blooms die.  The die set comes with five flower petals but I didn't use the largest because I wanted to keep my flowers a little smaller.  I colored the flowers with pink distress ink and a Mini Ink Blending Tool before I shaped them using a stylus from the McGill Paper Blossoms Tool Kit.

After the flowers were stacked and glued I adhered them to the card with Score Tape.  I cut the Memory Box Amira Flourish with the same pink card stock I used for the lattice and popped it up with Joy Crafts Foam Pads.  The sentiment was stamped using memento tuxedo black ink and cut with a Spellbinders oval die.

The card needed a little contrast so I added gray pearls to the flower centers and gray flourishes from another die in my stash.

Dies R Us Happy Anniversary!

Happy Friday!  This month Dies R Us is celebrating their one year anniversary!  In celebration the new Anniversary Challenge will run for the entire month and there will be 5 winners!  I hope you can join in the fun.

I created the layers using three dies from Sue Wilson's New York Madison Square die set.  All of the flower dies and embellishments are from Cheery Lynn Designs.  The off-white paper is a shimmery card stock and the middle lacy panel and words were cut out of a shiny chrome paper.  It's prettier in real life, the sheen didn't photograph well.

I added a silver center to the Cheery Lynn Chrysanthemum flower using the Cheery Lynn Build a Flower #2 embellishments and then glued a rhinestone center.  The smaller flower is Cheery Lynn's Sweet Christine cut from a light gray textured card stock.  I glued blue pearls to the centers.  I then positioned the flowers and tucked darker gray Cheery Lynn Leafy Flourish leaves behind the flowers.

Classy Cards Grandma's Bouquet

Hi friends!  I make lots of cards but I'm the worst at actually putting things in the mail.  I made this for my mom and plan on having my children give it to her.

I started by creating the pink Heartfelt Creations Arianna Blooms flowers.  I stamped the flowers with a dark pink Memento Ink and cut them out using the matching Heartfelt Creations Arianna Blooms Die.  I sponged Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry Distress inks on the petals using a Mini Ink Blending Tool and then shaped the flowers using a Paper Blossoms Tool Kit and molding mat. To add a little glam, I added a flat-back pearl to the center of each.

I cut the Cheery Lynn Small Lollipop Cutie Fringe with white card stock, sponged Squeezed Lemonade distress ink to the edges with the Mini Ink Blending Tool, and rolled them with the Roller Tool from the Paper Blossom Tool Kit.  I added a little glue to the beginning and end so the flowers would stay tightly rolled.  

After the flowers were done I cut four of the Sue Wilson French Collection Corners out of the beautiful Gold Leaf Metallic Paper.   I mounted the four corners together on paper from the Kaisercraft On This Day paper pad, backed with another piece of Gold Leaf Curious Metallic before gluing them to the cream 5.5 x 5.5 card.

I arranged the flowers and adhered them with foam pads.  This way if I needed to I could peel them up and reposition, I wouldn't have the same flexibility with glue.  I added Cheery Lynn flourish die cuts around the flowers.  The leaves and flourishes were cut out of Cryogen White card stock and have a soft shimmer.

The Cheery Lynn Grandma die cut was covered in Frantage Silver Embossing Powder.  I love this stuff, it's large flakes coat everything so nicely.  After adding the Frantage the die cut looks like a metal embellishment.

I made this for a friend who has a Summer birthday.  It was fun figuring out how to layer all these lacy dies.  The largest flower was cut from the Cheery Lynn Frangipani die.  I thought this card needed something that looked more like a rose so I turned it into one using some flower shaping tools.  The pink flowers were colored using Glimmer Mists.  Thanks for looking!

I purchased this great new Frantic Stamper Princess Castle die at Dies R Us and wanted to play. Kraftin' Kimmie Cinderella is a large image which made figuring out how to incorporate the castle into this card difficult. I finally came up with the idea to tuck it between layers.  

After coloring Cinderella with Copics, I cut out the end of her dress so I could use the "Out of the box" technique.  I used the Spellbinders Scalloped Labels One die to finish cutting around her and then layered her on top of the larger scalloped labels blue cardstock.  The Inkadinkado clock was cut out by hand and distressed with Tim Holtz Antique Linen distress ink.  The MFT flourish was also colored with distress ink.  The sentiment is from Riley & Co..

Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite children's books and I had to have this Kraftin' Kimmie stamp.   I've owned this stamp for a while now I think but it's my first time using it.

My 17 month old grabbed my Copics (boy, he's quick!) and colored over the image so I ended up having to cut her out as well as paper piece her carpet bag.  Maybe he did me a favor?  :)  Thanks for stopping by!

Magnolia Princess

I made this for my daughter's friend.  My 6 year old is still very much in the princess stage.  :)  I'm not sure it shows in the photograph but the large rose shimmers.  I sprayed shimmer spritz in frost on the assembled rose and the centers of the small rolled roses have stickles.  There is glitter on Tilda's crown and she has a pearl necklace made from perfect pearls.
