IO Sweet Shakes

I used IO's circle shaker frame die, lots of foam tape and a piece of clear plastic to make the window.   I thought the little iridescent beads looked like sprinkles!  :)  This card is "out of the box" for me because I haven't made a shaker card in a few years,  I hardly use yellow or patterned paper and I almost always embellish using paper flowers.  The cupcake stamp is from IO and was colored using copics.  I brushed the icing with a clear Wink of Stella brush for some extra sparkle.

Thanks for visiting and have a great day!

Peacock Feathers

Hi again!  So...this card is simpler than my usual cluttered creations.  I was playing with some new stamps and this is what came together.  These images are both from Deep Red Stamps - love this feather stamp!  Next time I think I'll color the stamp with different inks before stamping.  The peacock is covered in glitter, it obscures some of the detail but it really shines.  This card needs a sentiment (something bold at the bottom) but I'm going to leave it blank for the moment and stamp it later when I need a quick card for something.  Thanks for looking & Happy Easter!

Design Team News!

I was so excited to be invited to join the Dies R Us Challenge Blog design team!  It's such an honor to be working with this talented group of ladies.  I can't wait to see their new creations when the first challenge launches May 1st.

I hope you'll join me and play along at the challenge blog as well as pop over to the Dies R Us store.  They really have an incredible selection of dies.  It's amazing to find all of the brands I look for in one place!

Sunny Blossom

Hello!  I created this with the Impression Obsession You are My Sunshine Challenge in mind.   I didn't have much in my stash that seemed to work with this theme so I purchased a pack of yellow gelatos hoping it would spark my creativity.  The colors are so beautiful and vibrant but I they are going to take some practice.  They don't blend the same way distress ink does.  I rubbed gelatos on paper, spritzed with water and then used a paintbrush to move the paint around.  I let it dry and then cut the hollyhocks out of the colored paper.

I used distress stains to create the sentiment layer.  After it dried I stamped the sentiment in black.  The lattice design behind the sentiment is the chain-link texture stamp is also from Impression Obsession.  I love it - it added so much depth to the image.

The top layer is popped up with foam tape so there's more dimension than appears in the photo.  Thanks for looking!

Baby Onsies

Hello!  My sister needed a card for a friend and this is what I created.

I used a quickcutz die and some pattered paper scraps to make the onsies.  I popped them up with foam tape.  I then created layered mats using Spellbinders A2 Curved Matting Basics dies.  I also popped up the layers with foam tape.  I used Judikins color dusters to brush distress ink around the edge of the white mat.

Thanks for stopping by!

House Mouse Fore You

I haven't used this stamp in a while and my Father-in-Law's birthday is coming up.  He's a big golfer (and a Mickey Mouse fan) so this card will be for him.

The Fore You stamp is a studio G stamp that was "missing" an E so I added one.  The golf die is from quickutz.  The argyle paper was from a kitchen themed pack from Joann's.  The card is A6 size and I used a cuttlebug embossing folder for the tan background layer.  The main square layer was cut with a Spellbinders classic square die after I played around with a Spellbinders Creatopia shape I decided wasn't right for the image (hence the rounded cut-outs on the top and bottom of the image).

The purple background isn't a card layer, it's just what I photographed the white card on.  I love Marianne dies - all the HM entries look amazing but I'm crossing my fingers!  :)  Thanks for looking!

Steampunk Friends

Hello and welcome!  It's my second time trying steampunk and I think the colors ended up a bit too bright but maybe next time I'll get it right!  :)

This Tidlyinks stamp is from a set called "Grow old friends".  I wanted her face to be pale but she is actually colored with copics and isn't quite as pale as she appears.  All of the white cardstock has been brushed lightly with distress ink which doesn't seem to be showing well either.  Last, I used a Wink of Stella brush to add shimmer. The paper embellishments were all made using dies.  I colored the gears with brown and metallic distress stain and then coated them with two layers of Rock Candy crackle paint.  In between coats of crackle, I brushed copper pearl-ex powder on the gears.

The blue-green cardstock left of the main image was embossed with a Tim Holtz gears embossing folder.  Metallic ink was rubbed over the raised parts before I sponged it with distress ink, dabbed on additional metallic stain and stamped over it  randomly.  On the right I glued sheet music onto tan cardstock, used distress ink and a distress tool to rough up the edges and then painted over it with crackle paint.  Neither of the two main layers is very prominent under all the "stuff" but they're there, really!

I'd like to thank my husband for having clothing that sheds all sorts of interesting threads in the laundry (as that's where the bottom string came from) as well as mention my 14 month old as he personally distressed the small blue rose in the photo.  "Bay Joe" has provided greatly needed distressing on many of my die cut flowers of late as he attempts (and often succeeds) to taste them all.  Thanks guys!

Thanks for stopping by!

Butterfly Trellis

Hi!  I don't often use Green as a dominant color in cards so this week's Impression Obession challenge was quite challenging for me.

I colored the trellis die cut with distress ink.  I also used more distress ink to "age" the dark green panel behind the trellis. I used a distressing tool to rough up the edges of the green cardstock too and then ran more distress ink over the sides.  The flowers were cut from the Hydrangea die and then brushed with Wink of Stella brush for an added soft shimmer.  The vines were colored with copics.  Thanks for looking!

Under the Sea Tag

I don't usually make tags but my new Tim Holtz tag die was begging to be used.  I created the background by applying distress stain over the entire tag and then spritzing with water.  There are some metallic spots because I also used Metallic Brass Distress ink.  The black ink is Memento.  I used a variety of stamps.  Some are from stampin' up and others are from a Heidi Grace clear stamp set.

The bookplate frame is also from the same Tim Holtz die.  I first painted the frame with metallic and brown distress inks and then coated it with a layer of clear rock candy crackle paint.  I added specks of pearl-ex powder to the wet crackle paint by flicking the tip of a brush over the frame.  Then I added a second layer of crackle paint.  I love the glossy crackle effect.

I brushed glitter over the word using a Wink of Stella brush so the sentiment also shimmers.  Thanks for looking!

Spring Dogwood

Dogwood flowers always make me think of spring and it's finally beginning to feel like spring here in southern New York.  Impression Obession stamps have such amazingly beautiful detail.  I love this stamp!  After playing with my other card for the IO challenge on and off this week, this one came together in a snap.

I stamped the dogwood using Memento - Pear Tart ink.  The image was cut with a Spellbinders label die and then colored with copics.  I used Linen, Tea dye and Peeled Paint (my go-to green lately) distress ink to color the edges. The Spellbinders label die was used as a stencil to keep the edge white.  I stamped an extra dogwood flower on another piece of white cardstock, cut it out, colored it with copics and popped it up with foam tape.  The dogwood centers were colored with light pink and yellow copics but the color looks almost orange in the photo.  The flower centers were brushed with glitter using a Wink of Stella brush.

The flower layer was adhered to the scalloped oval with foam tape for added dimension and the oval also has foam tape behind it.  I used the Cuttlebug modern wallpaper embossing folder on the white background layer to mirror the shape of the Spellbinders flower layer.  I used a Cuttlebug chevron embossing foder on the tan vertical stripe and layered a rust colored paper behind that.  At the very bottom is a piece of green cardstock (that I believe is from Stampin' Up - maybe certainly celery?) and then a final layer of brown.

Thanks for looking!
